The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

The gastroenterology and nutrition service sees children from Leeds and around Yorkshire who have a wide range of disorders including vomiting, abdominal pain, gastro esophageal reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, inflammatory bowel disease, feeding difficulties and poor growth. We are also one of the busiest intestinal failure rehabilitation services in the country for children with intestinal failure / short bowel syndrome.

We also work as a Nutrition Team, and provide advice and support throughout the Children’s Hospital. Our team supervises approximately 20 children with severe bowel problems who have to receive feeds through a vein while being cared for at home (home parenteral nutrition). A small number of these children are referred to Birmingham for bowel transplantation.

Regular outpatient clinics include:

  • those for children who have general gastroenterology problems
  • inflammatory bowel disease
  • a joint medical-surgical clinic
  • an adolescent transition clinic
  • a fast track clinic for urgent reviews
