Sarcoma Service


The Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service look after all of the sarcoma patients and soft tissue tumours in the Yorkshire region. This website is designed to help patients who have been recently referred to this service, and to assist health professionals who may need to make a referral for a patient.

Sarcomas are a rare form of cancer, and can occur anywhere in the body. They can arise from muscle, fat, nerve or bone. Sarcomas can sometimes be a challenge to diagnose, and as a result, they often require specialist input from clinicians  The Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service is made up of multiple specialist clinicians, who are very experienced in the management of these tumours and who see lots of cases per year.

We cover the City of Leeds, the wider Yorkshire region and are part of the Yorkshire Cancer Network.

The Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service receive over 700 referrals a year, of which approximately 100 are diagnosed as sarcoma

The aim of the Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service

  • Inform, involve and support the patient at all times
  • Attempt cure when able
  • Appropriately balance risk of therapy against likelihood of cure
  • Maximise patient function at all times

Information for Patients

The Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service is a team of doctors and clinicians from various specialities who specialise in benign and malignant lumps and bumps on the body. You may have been referred to us because you have a lump that is large.

Although named the "Yorkshire Regional Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service" only a very few of the patients who come to our clinics will actually have a sarcoma.
