Palliative care

The specialist palliative care team provides a service that offers assessment and advice on the management of complex physical symptoms, psychological, social and spiritual issues. This is available for all patients with advanced progressive and life threatening disease (and not only for patients with cancer).

The team comprises palliative medicine consultants, specialty doctors, nurse specialists and a pharmacist. Close links exist with colleagues in clinical psychology, oncology, social work, chaplaincy and chronic pain relief.

Specialist palliative care services in Leeds are also provided by St Gemma's Hospice and Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields. Both hospices provide community support for patients in their own homes or nursing homes, day hospice, and an inpatient unit. Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields covers the West of the city where St Gemma's Hospice covers the East.

Lots more information can be found on the Leeds Palliative Care Website by Leeds Palliative Care

If you feel palliative care services could help please discuss this with the doctors or nurses caring for you.
