Razdy Igsan Clinical Nurse Specialist, Liver Surgery
As a Trust we are always looking at ways to improve what we do. Sometimes this is changing the little things, sometimes it's about looking at a whole service redesign.
These improvements work towards ensuring that patients have the safest care and the best possible experience while being treated at our hospitals.
Razdy, or Raz, has been with LTHT for nearly 14 years and works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Enhanced Recovery in Liver Surgery.
Raz is playing an integral part in the Enhanced Recovery service improvement programme. Enhanced Recovery in liver surgery is currently being developed as a patient pathway to facilitate a safer, more effective and speed up recovery and discharge following a liver resection.
"I feel privileged to work for Leeds Teaching Hospitals. As a centre of excellence for hepatology, I have the opportunity to work alongside some of the World's leading liver experts," said Raz. "I really enjoy my work and have a keen interest in all facets of liver treatments. I certainly feel as though I am in the right place here in Leeds."
"Working with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, we are working to provide the best possible patient care and make sure that people have the right outcomes when they have surgery on their livers, here at LTHT," Raz added.
The day-to-day for a CNS at LTHT focuses on informing and educating patients in clinics, and preparing them for upcoming procedures.
For Raz this involves patients with the Enhanced Recovery project and guiding them through the weeks prior to and after their operation.
"The project is still in its infancy; but we have come some way towards improving recovery times for our patients in a safe and effective manner," Raz explained. "We are working towards giving patients a level of responsibility for their own recovery, alongside 'pre-optimising' patients in order to reduce complications."
"We are looking at the operation process holistically: prior to the op; during; and after, to make sure our patients have the most effective treatment pathway," he added.
Outside of work Raz has a keen interest in history and enjoys visiting historical locations. Alongside his passion for history, he also enjoys taking time out to swim.
"I hardly have time for myself out of work, but when I do, I like to visit interesting places and buildings and spend time out and about," said Raz.
