Childhood Cancer Awareness Month #CCAM
Tuesday 19th September 2017
Yesterday, the Children’s and Teenage Haematology & Oncology play team took over the entrance of the Clarendon wing to raise awareness and funds for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month #CCAM.
The Play team have been busy decorating units and wards in varying shades of gold as this is the international colour of childhood cancer awareness.
You find out more about the ‘Be Bold Go Gold’ campaign here: http://www.cclg.org.uk/BeBoldGoGold
Our Medical Director Dr Yvette Oade came along to share her support and meet some of the teams.
The event included a ‘Gold Ribbon Pin Board’ designed by the play team, face, hand and nail painting - gold themed of course, and an activity table. There were also information stands featuring information from Candlelighters, CLICSargent and Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) and a cake stall and tombola raising funds in aid of ‘World Child Cancer’.
The Leeds Children’s Hospital is part of a ‘twinning’ partnership with a childhood cancer treatment programmer in Cameroon, supported by World Child Cancer.
80% of children with cancer in developed countries will survive. However, in the developing world the picture is very different, where survival rates can be as low as 10%. World Child Cancer works to support these countries - and we think that Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a great time to support them!
