NIHR Leeds Musculosketal Biomedical Research Unit
Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit
The NIHR Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit (LMBRU) was created in 2008 as part of the NIHR's initiative to support translational clinical research in priority areas. Through this funding, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) was awarded £13 million and is based on the strong collaborative links and foundations of excellence in musculoskeletal research activities between the LTHT and University of Leeds.
LMBRU is an international leader in translational musculoskeletal research hosted within LTHT, and bringing together two leading University of Leeds research institutes, the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (LIRMM) and the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE), both of which have the delivery of patient focussed research driven by scientific evidence as the core of their activities. University of Leeds and LTHT are now the most highly cited English Higher Education Institute and NHS organisation respectively in the area of musculoskeletal diseases.
