Service
Radiology Department
Radiology provides both an important diagnostic imaging service and a range of therapeutic procedures to support clinicians both within and outside the hospital.
A full range of examinations are available with some of the more specialised tests only after consultation with a Radiologist.
Facilities and Referral Procedure.
Radiology facilities are located in various sites across the Trust, and our aim where possible is to give patients the choice of when and where to have their Radiology examination.
We have reduced our waiting times by offering a more open and flexible service, whereby patients have a wider choice.
To reduce the amount of appointment slots wasted each year, it is important that patients who are unable to attend, or do not wish to proceed with their examination, inform the department as soon as possible. To cancel or rearrange an appointment please telephone the number shown on you appointment letter.
Radiology does not provide a result enquiry service for patients. All results will be sent to the referring GP or Clinician.
Plain film paediatric examinations are performed in Clarendon Wing at the LGI and at Wharfedale Hospital.
The service provided by the Leeds Chest Clinic has now been relocated to Martin Wing Leeds General Infirmary and operates as a one stop clinic 08.30 - 16.30 Monday - Friday.
Please note that the service at St Georges remains unchanged.
Bone Densitometry Service is available at the following sites:
- Leeds General Infirmary & St James's Hospital - Send the completed request card (including a daytime telephone number for the patient) to Bone Densitometry, ‘A’ Floor, Brotherton Wing, LGI, LS1 3EX, Tel: (0113) 39 22700 or FAX (0113) 39 25199.
- Wharfedale - Send the completed request card (including a daytime telephone number for the patient) to Bone Densitometry X ray Department, Wharfedale Hospital, Newall Carr Road, LS21 2LY, Tel: (0113) 392 1633/4
Please Note - This Service operates a booked appointments only system.
All Radiology procedures require a completed and signed request card
The request card should include if possible patient telephone contact details, this should then be sent / faxed to the relevant department or for plain film requests given to the patient.
Direct / Open Access Radiology
For Plain Film patients referred by a GP have the option of a pre booked appointment time or alternatively at specified sites they can just turn up and wait, no appointment necessary. Please give the patient the completed request card as the patient Must bring the X ray request card with them. Patients can then choose to either telephone the department for an appointment, which will usually be given within 24 hours or attend a walk- in session as specified.
Patient Transport: Patient’s transport for radiology appointments is booked via the referring GP practice.
