The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Team

The North of England Paediatric PCD Management Service is based at Leeds Children's Hospital, in partnership with Bradford Teaching Hospitals. The regional team work alongside local teams across the North of England to provide specialist care for patients from diagnosis through to transition to adult services. Our patients are reviewed at annual assessments, and supported additionally with home visits, school visits and via telephone.

Physiotherapy is a key part in the management of PCD. Physiotherapy techniques and nebulisers are used to clear mucus from the airways, aiming to minimise infections and keep the lungs functioning well. The nose and sinus can also become congested with mucus and physiotherapy helps to manage this. We also provide advice on regular exercise which can help to open up the airways, clear mucus, and maintain fitness.

Claire Gee is the lead physiotherapist and can be contacted via email: Claire.gee1@nhs.net or via the PCD administrator, Marie Stoves on 01133926335. Alternatively you can call the inpatient office on 0113 3920609 (answerphone available)
