Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Definition:

“All procedures which involve, partial or total removal of the female external genitalia, or any other injury to the female genital organs, for non-therapeutic reasons”

Leeds Perinatal FGM Service

Our midwife-led FGM service includes both antenatal and postnatal FGM clinics. The aim of our service is to improve the perinatal experience and outcome for both mother and baby, whilst providing health information/advice and protecting children. An assessment of the extent of the FGM is offered, following which an individualised plan of care is made with the woman.

The antenatal clinic is held at St James's Hospital on Wednesday mornings.

The postnatal clinic is held at St James's Hospital on Tuesday afternoons.

Referrals and appointments can be made by fax: 0113 2066461 or telephone: 0113 2066392
