Fistula Formation

Our department does not solely treat vascular diseases and we are involved in the assessment for fistula formation for renal patients so that they can be dialysed regularly.

Renal patients will be assessed by the doctor in the outpatient department. To assess a patient’s suitability for a fistula a scan will be performed, this will determine the best site for the fistula formation. This scan is painless and only takes a short period of time.

Once this scan has taken place, the doctor will advise the patient of his/her findings. The patient is free to leave the department once the scan has taken place.

Notification is sent to arrange fistula formation. This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic at a later date, and the patient should await notification for a surgical appointment.
