Thyroid peroxidase is the principal antigen against which antibodies are directed in autoimmune thyroid disease.

Additional Information TPO antibodies are useful in helping to predict those individuals who are at risk of developing hypothyroidism in the future. IF the TSH is raised, then positive antibodies predict the development of hypothyroidismn at a rate of approximately 5% per year.
