A copper transport protein. Caeruloplasmin is useful in conjunction with plasma and urinary copper in the diagnosis of Wilsons disease.

Additional Information Caeruloplasmin is low in patients with severe liver disease irrespective of aetiology. Low values are also seen in malnutrition, malabsorption and nephrotic syndrome. Elevated values are seen in infections, malignancy and trauma.
