The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

We are building a new pathology laboratory in the grounds of St James’s University Hospital. The building is scheduled to be completed in summer 2023 and will serve patients from right across West Yorkshire and Harrogate.

The new laboratory will co-locate the majority of pathology services across the Trust into one, purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility that will drive improvements in diagnostic testing across our region.

A lot of our pathology services are currently based in outdated facilities at the Old Medical School at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) site but once vacated, the Old Medical School will form part of a plan to use surplus estate at the LGI to develop an innovation village which is expected to deliver up to 4,000 new jobs and an economic boost of almost £13 billion for our region.

Check out the latest time-lapse video which shows the roof being completed on our new laboratory.
