Experience Pathology careers event

12 May 2021

Are you thinking about a future career working in pathology? Our Experience Pathology virtual event is for students aged 14-18.

pathology scientistPathology testing helps doctors to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. It is the study of samples from a person’s body – for example, blood or skin samples – to find out what is causing their illness and how serious it is. The results help doctors to plan the best treatment and care. Pathology covers all areas of medicine, from testing for cancer to preventing the spread of infection. It also plays a key role in research, for example by studying the effects of new drugs or finding new treatments for disease.

Our Pathology teams play a vital role in the care for patients in our hospitals - more than 322,000 COVID-19 tests have been processed by our team during the pandemic!

Our virtual event, held on Microsoft Teams on Thursday 17 June 2021 at 11am will include:

  • Virtual laboratory tours
  • Quizzes / interactive sessions
  • Careers information
  • NHS application and CV workshop
  • Drop-in sessions with local Healthcare Science education providers
  • ‘Meet the Healthcare Scientist’ drop-in session
  • Live Q&A – ask your question using our form before the event.

At the event you will also be able to find out about plans for our new purpose-built, dedicated pathology laboratory on the St James’s University Hospital site.
