The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Leeds General Infirmary

The LGI is a hospital dating back an incredible 250 years. From it's original purpose as a hospital ‘for the relief of the sick and poor’, it has grown to become one of the foremost healthcare providers in the country.

These pages give an insight into it's history - we'd love to hear your memories!

We're really pleased to announce the launch of our book which captures the inspiring medical and surgical developments in our hospitals over the past 250 years. It has over 60 contributors including clinicians past and present.
For further information please see our News Article about the book A history of the clinical specialties at Leeds Teaching Hospitals from 1767-2018.

Our thanks go to all current and former staff in the Trust, Leeds Cares and our partner organisations across Leeds, who have all generously given their advice and time to help with this project.
