Leeds Teaching Hospitals announces new Director of HR and OD

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has today announced the appointment of Dean Royles as Executive Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development.
Dean is currently the Chief Executive of the NHS Employers organisation which provides a national expert HR service, represents workforce leaders across the NHS and negotiates fairly to get the best deal for patients.
Commenting on his new appointment in Leeds, Dean said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to be joining one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK at such an exciting time. The Trust is already underway with a number of ambitious plans to build a talented, highly engaged and empowered workforce which can deliver the best possible patient care and I am delighted to be joining them to drive this forward. During his time at NHS Employers, Dean successfully developed the organisation’s vision and operating plan making it an essential and well regarded part of the new NHS architecture. He has a reputation for working in partnership with staff and has worked effectively with NHS Trusts and trade unions in areas such as pay reform, pensions and staff engagement.
Prior to joining NHS Employers in 2010, Dean worked in a number of very senior HR roles across a variety of health organisations, including Director of Workforce and Education at the North West Strategic Health Authority. He has held Board level posts at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals and East Midlands Ambulance Service and also spent three years as Director of HR Capacity for England at the Department of Health.
Since 2009 he has also been the Chair of the Executive Board of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Europe’ s largest professional HR body with over 135,000 members.

Dean will be taking up his new post in September 2014. He succeeds Jackie Green, who has been Director of HR for Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2009.
