Patients and visitors warned of short-term disruption outside Chancellor’s Wing at St James’s

3 September 2015

Work will be taking place shortly to resurface the ambulance bay at the rear of Chancellor’s Wing at St James’s University Hospital, and measures will be put in place to allow alternative ambulance access during these essential repairs.

The principal change is there will be a temporary closure of the car park at the front of the wing to allow ambulances to use the front entrance while the rear bay is being resurfaced.

From 6am on Tuesday 8 September the front of the Chancellor’s Wing will be cleared of non-ambulance vehicles and there will be no car access for the general public or staff during this time to either Chancellor’s Wing entrance or the Emergency Department (A&E) entrance.

A temporary security barrier will be in place to control access. Disabled car parking will remain available at the Chancellor’s Wing during the work, but drop off bays will be temporarily out of action.

Estates and Emergency Department staff will be liaising closely to avoid disruption to essential services during the work, and apologise to patients and visitors for any inconvenience this short-term work causes.

The work will be completed by the end of Thursday 10 September, after which restrictions will be lifted and emergency ambulance access will revert to the rear entrance to the Emergency Department as normal.
