Leeds Maternity Services open day

2 November 2023

Maternity Services in Leeds are holding an open day to showcase their specialist services and the support available to families across the city.

This special event is being held at the Thackray Medical Museum on 15 November 2023 as part of Baby Week Leeds. The public are welcome to drop in at any time from 10am-2pm.

There will be opportunities to speak to specialist teams, find out about maternity facilities in Leeds, hear about the support available for infant feeding and chat to parent representatives about their experiences.

The Lotus Midwifery Team who care for those having a homebirth or giving birth in the midwifery led unit at Leeds General Infirmary will be there to explain about the facilities and support available when giving birth in Leeds.

The team’s Digital Midwives will also be demonstrating My Pregnancy Notes, which allows anyone who is pregnant to register for their first appointment with a midwife and view their maternity notes online.

Leeds Maternity Voices partnership will be sharing information about their drop in sessions in Leeds and inviting people to sign up as parent representatives to get involved in making improvements to Maternity Services in the city.

Baby Week launched in Leeds in 2016 and now takes place in several cities across the UK. The initiative promotes the best start in life for children and the importance of the first 1001 days. It’s also an opportunity for professionals and services across the private, public and voluntary sectors to connect, listen to parents and carers, and enhance the way they work in maternity, health and early years.

Laura Walton, Deputy Head of Midwifery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, we’d love for you to join us to come and find out about Maternity services and the support available in Leeds. We are excited to be part of the Baby Week celebrations alongside our partners across the city.”
