Since qualifying as a paediatric nurse, Nigel has concentrated on providing and improving care for young people and has more than 20 years’ experience of working with young people in hospital. He has worked on dedicated adolescent wards, a Teenage Cancer Trust ward, as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), and has had roles as the CNS for Adolescent Care and Transition Improvement Manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), where he developed Growing Up, Gaining Independence, the trust’s transition framework.

Nigel is a staunch advocate for young people and is keen on young people’s participation and engagement, firmly believing that their stories, voices, ideas and opinions need to be listened to and acted upon. Nigel was involved in setting-up and running the highly successful GOSH Young People’s Forum.

With Louise Porter, Nigel was one of the founder members of the National Transition Leads group, and is a member of the Advisory Panel for the Association for Young People’s Health (AYPH).

Nigel has chosen young people's engagement as the focus for the London Region for 2022.
