Ask HR - 16 Feb

Today’s Live Ask HR session had attendance of 33 colleagues. This prompted some great interactive conversations between the panel and our attendees which really enlivens the experience for everyone.

The panel was led by Jenny Lewis, Director of HR and Organisational Development, facilitated by Rachael Meal, our Staff Engagement Lead and supported by other senior HR colleagues.

We would encourage you listen to the recordings if you can, as often, whatever your question, chances are someone else will have a similar question too and their shared experience may resonate with your situation. Topics today included remote working tax relief, the process for the HR and Triumpherate team Joint Accountability Framework meetings, and supporting our clinically extremely vulnerable staff to stay safe both at home and within the workplace.

Join us for our next Ask HR on the 5th March, 11-11.30am.

Ask HR - 29 January

The panel was led by Jenny Lewis, Director of HR and Organisational Development, facilitated by Rachael Meal, our Staff Engagement Lead and supported by other senior HR colleagues.

Current challenges of Covid-19 understandably continue to steer many of the questions we are receiving. There have been a few similar questions around annual leave and Chris Carvey, Deputy Director of HR, tried to give some clarity on the current annual leave situation and how improvements being made are intended so as no one  feels disadvantaged by any changes. The vaccine was clearly in the forefront of everyone’s mind and Jenny Lewis gave a comprehensive account of the challenges of following the clinical guidance around vaccine prioritisation and the logic around where staff can access the vaccine.

We also explored;

  • the limited national guidance for shielding staff,
  • the impact on clinical staff concerned about loss of clinical practice,
  • what will happen if you become ill post-vaccine
  • ways to find innovative, flexible working solutions.

So please do continue to join us and ask any HR questions you have. There are some good contributions in the chat with useful links for staff to explore later and we really would appreciate feedback from you to help shape these sessions to be as useful as we can: https://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/covid19/ask-the-experts/give-us-your-feedback

Ask HR - 14 January

Rachael Meal, Staff engagement Lead, welcomed us to the first Ask HR of 2021 and Jenny Lewis, Director of HR and Organisational Development, wished a warm and happy new year to all those colleagues joining us for the session.

Colleagues on the panel are here to connect with you on a more personal level and having listened to feedback received from you, we will be carrying on these live sessions every 2 weeks.

There’s an obvious anxiousness around the new virulent strain of the virus and the response asked of us as an organisation. This is mixed with real optimism for the arrival of the vaccine and the potential to offer some hope for a return to a more normal way of living with this virus.

This is understandably, bringing a lot of questions around priorities for vaccinations and the panel gave some clear guidance on the subject.

Attendees took the opportunity to ask some questions in the chat and these started an expanded discussion with the panel.

The next Live Ask HR session will be 29th January.

Ask HR - 29 December

Today’s final Ask HR live session of the year was attended by 35 attendees, despite it taking place during the Christmas period when many staff take their traditional break. It was a great testament to our staff who remain engaged and committed to empowering themselves with  information and knowledge to help us continue our work, protecting our patients and colleagues.

Our HR Panel today was led by Karen Vella, Deputy Director Of Hr (Organisational Learning) and supported in the main by Dominic Barnes, Head of Operational HR, who answered questions predominantly centered around staff absences, whether sickness absence, annual leave planning or remote working considerations for extremely clinically vulnerable colleagues.

Thank you to you all for your continued engagement with the team, we look forward to a brighter 2021 and wish you a very Happy New Year.

Ask HR - 8 December

Today’s Ask HR live session maintained a very encouraging 40 attendees and the panel took the opportunity to ask the assembled group whether the sessions were useful and if there was a desire to continue them into the new year. The over-riding response was that they were extremely useful and that staff wished them to continue.

Our HR Panel led by Jenny Lewis- Director of HR and Organisational Development, who was joined by other Senior HR Colleagues, answered questions covering such topics as the demands on service while balancing the needs to take annual leave. Some clear guidance on child-care issues arising from Covid and the need to remain fair to all staff as per the Leeds Way values.

As today marked the day the Covid vaccine arrived in the city, the hot topic for this session was, understandably, the latest information and guidance on the current Covid vaccinations.

The next live Ask HR event will commence on  Tues 29 December at 2pm so please, if you are around, ask questions, put forward suggestions, and help build understanding of new guidelines and ways of working during this time. If you are fortunate enough to be having some well-deserved leave, may we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Ask HR - 23 November

Rachael Meal, Staff engagement Lead, welcomed us to the latest Ask HR on 23rd November.

Some of the topics covered today included annual leave entitlement, remote working, retirement and some topics on pregnant and breast-feeding staff .

Several specific questions sent in advance will be followed up directly by HR Advisors and there time to take live questions for the panel, which was well received by the attendees. We went on to discuss how staff can find answers to their questions quickly and easily, and where to go for support when you feel something different needs to be done in the area you work.

Ask HR - 9 November

For our third Ask HR live Q&A session on 9 November, the panel was led by Jenny Lewis, Director of HR and Organisational Development, who was joined by other senior HR colleagues.

The subjects discussed were reflective of the current challenges of Covid-19 we find ourselves dealing with, from ensuring we maintain a good balance of work and home life, to how those self-isolating and the extremely clinically vulnerable can continue to contribute meaningful work.

It’s a great opportunity to ask any HR-related questions you like and to support one another through the pandemic and through winter pressures. So please do continue to join us and ask questions.

Ask HR - 28 October

The second of our Ask HR live sessions was held on the 28 October, which despite being over school half term still maintained a good attendance with attendees taking some well-earned time away from their daily duties to join our HR Panel to ask questions, put forward suggestions, and to help build understanding of new guidelines and ways of working during this time.

The Panel was led by Jenny Lewis- Director of HR and Organisational Development, who was joined by other Senior HR Colleagues.

Subjects were varied and in the 30 minute session, the panel covered many of the questions which had been sent in advance, from remote working, courses and ongoing training access to explaining the principles behind the Personalised People management which underpins all the work we currently do.

Once again feedback has been very positive, with attendees commenting that they found it useful, and follow up was to add the links to the staff connect app.

The next  live ‘Ask HR event will commence on Monday 9 November.

Work Life Week - 13 October

During “National Work Life Week”, and as part of LTHT’s Wellbeing Month this October, LTHT launched the first ‘Ask HR’ live Question and Answer session.

It was an opportunity to take a moment to invest in all parts of your work life, from your work-life balance to your wellbeing at work, and to join our HR Panel to ask questions, put forward suggestions, and to help build understanding of new guidelines and ways of working during this time.

The Panel was led by Jenny Lewis- Director of HR and Organisational Development, who was joined by other Senior HR Colleagues.

Staff had been invited to post questions in advance to start off the conversations and over the 30 minute session, the team covered varied topics such as Unplanned Leave i.e. for childcare, remote and flexible working, Covid guidelines, social distancing, further guided by participant responses and questions during the session.

There were over 60 attendees who took part and the feedback has been very positive, with attendees commenting that they appreciated the open and honest conversations as an easier way to handle complicated topics and that the personal touch was appreciated by staff as a good way to explore the more sensitive HR questions.

The session was so successful with good engagement on the chat that we have decided to hold a live Ask HR event every two weeks commencing on 28 October.
