The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

A tribute to Dr Simon Newell

11 August 2016

We are so sad to hear of the tragic death of Dr Simon Newell, one of our consultants in the Neonatal Units.

His colleagues in the neonatal team have written a lovely tribute to their friend and colleague.

Dr Sharon English and Dr Cath Harrison on behalf of the neonatal team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals said:

"We are extremely saddened to announce the tragic and unexpected death of our dear friend and colleague, Dr Simon Newell.

Simon was one of the fathers of Leeds Neonatology and made a huge contribution to neonatal medicine in the UK.

He took every opportunity to share his extensive experience and knowledge and had an unrivalled passion for teaching.

Simon was a true gentleman and treated everyone he worked with, and cared for, equally.

His boundless energy and enthusiasm, great wisdom, sense of humour, and bow ties will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone who knew him at this difficult time."
