Colin Holton - Clinical Director

What does your job entail?
I'm a orthopaedic surgeon specialising in adolescent and young hip surgery. I operate on patients of all ages performing surgery including hip replacements, hip arthroscopy, femoral and pelvic osteotomies. I also operate on paediatric orthopaedic conditions including elective and trauma cases.
As Clinical Director for Leeds Children’s Hospital I work with a brilliant team of Lead Clinicians across every service to ensure the best outcome for every patient that comes through our doors. I form one third of the Triumvirate Team of senior managers responsible for the running of the hospital, working closely with the Head of Nursing and General Manager.
What do you love about your job?
I love my clinical practise, helping patients and families with orthopaedic conditions on an individual basis, always pushing for the best outcomes. Successful surgery side by side with other treatment enabling patients to have greater mobility which can mean being able to return to a sport they love, walk unaided or enjoy greater movement and better overall quality of life.
As Clinical Director I also feel very privileged to play a part in improving and enhancing all our paediatric services here at Leeds Children's Hospital.
Why Leeds Children’s Hospital?
I am proud to work for and represent the clinical teams of Leeds Children’s Hospital. We offer a world class service to the patients of Leeds, Yorkshire, UK and international patients who are cared for here in Leeds. Leeds Children’s Hospital has the unique position of being a specialist Children’s Hospital with its own identity but whilst being part of the wider Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This puts us in the distinctive position of being able to offer cradle to grave care for our patients and families who we develop long standing and significant relationships with. We have award winning transitional services to ensure continuity of the excellent care we provide and we do all this in the heart of Yorkshire!
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I am blessed with an amazing wife and 4 wonderful children who keep me busy providing 'Dad's taxi service'. Occasionally I also manage to fit in bit of exercise including my Scottish-born heritage of playing golf with friends…. maybe a bit more than occasionally!
