The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Research and Innovation

Our history

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has a long history of delivering quality clinical research with usually around 950 open studies in any one year. Over 70% studies at the Trust currently qualify for the NIHR portfolio.

This active research environment coupled with ever changing patient needs and research teams led to the evolution of our Research Academy based at the Research & Innovation Centre at St James University Hospital.

Established in 2018 by Dr Jacqueline Andrews and lead research nurse Karl Ward our plan was to provide ‘in house’ research specific education for our leaders and workforce.
