The team’s partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim to establish an innovative combined cardiology and diabetes service (CaReMe service) for patients in Leeds was recognised as highly commended for the ‘Best Pharmaceutical Partnership with the NHS’ 2023 HSJ Partnership Awards.

The team was awarded in the 2024 Cardio-respiratory CSU awards for its commitment to Research and Innovation.

Dr Khatib has won the prestigious Primary Care Pharmacy Association (PCPA) Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Pharmacy Profession in 2025. This award recognises Dr Khatib’s impact across all sectors of pharmacy, and his unwavering commitment to advancing professional practice, research, and patient care.


In 2024, Dr Khatib was elected Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). The title honours individuals who have distinguished themselves in the cardiovascular field, with the ESC Fellowship programme recognising excellence and lifetime achievement.

Shannon Nickson has won a Special Recognition Award from The Pumping Marvellous Foundation (PMF) in 2026 for all the hard work and commitment into the Heart Failure Academy, which is co-led by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber.
PMF is the UK’s patient-led heart failure charity and Shannon has been recognised for her outstanding dedication, compassion, and commitment to supporting people living with heart failure.

In 2023, Dr Khatib was recognised in Asian Standard News as an influential figure in Leeds.

The team was shortlisted in the Medicines, Pharmacy and Prescribing Initiative at the HSJ awards, 2024, for its ‘Integrated approach to improving lipid optimisation in West Yorkshire’.
