The Satpal’s Sprinters team from Leeds Teaching Hospitals ran the Leeds 10k on Sunday in memory of Satpal Singh.
Satpal, a much-loved colleague, known by many for his selflessness, warmth and huge smile, had been diagnosed with MND in 2024 and was forced to take early retirement from his role within the Digital team shortly afterwards.
Sunday’s race was the third 10k the Satpal’s Sprinters team has completed, raising much needed funds for the MND Association. Oliver Lee is Account Director at Phoenix, one of LTHT’s suppliers, and joined the team to run on Sunday:
“I work closely with the Digital team, so it was a real privilege to be there on the day and run alongside the rest of the team. It’s such a worthwhile cause to support in Satpal’s memory and it was clear to see the team’s determination to do that, particularly when we were tackling the hill at 9km! They’re a great bunch of people to work with.”
Steve Scott is Captain for the Satpal’s Sprinters team: “The support, spirit and teamwork in the team is incredible. It reflects everything Satpal stood for – his kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others. The encouragement from colleagues and friends has meant so much, and it’s truly special to be part of something so meaningful.”
The MND Association’s Stacey Kirkpatrick is supporting the team with its fundraising efforts and said: “Satpal’s Sprinters are helping to raise awareness of MND as well as vital funds which will help us to improve care, support and information for people living with and affected by MND, while also funding cutting edge research into potential new treatments. It was great to be there to cheer the team on!”
MND is a terminal, neurological disease which affects more than 5,000 people in the UK at any one time. It affects the brain and spinal cord leaving people unable to speak, eat or even breathe. Six people are diagnosed with the disease every day. The MND Association exists to support people living with and affected by MND. It is also the biggest charity funder of MND research in the UK.
