Pump Show-and-Tell

We regularly hold Pump Show-and-Tell sessions, where representatives from Roche, Medtronic and Omnipod come to our diabetes centre to talk about their insulin pumps. It is an opportunity for people who are thinking about starting on a pump, or who are due a pump upgrade, to find out more information about the latest pumps that are available. Please let your nurse know if you would be interested in attending one of these sessions.

Youth Group

As part of the Youth Forum, there is a youth group for 13-19 year olds that runs every Tuesday evening from 17:30 - 19:30 at the Leeds General Infirmary. It is a fun and informal way for young people with diabetes and other long-term conditions to meet and socialise in a safe environment. If you would be interested in coming along, please contact our youth worker Faye Bishop on 07557076800.

School Update Sessions

When a child is newly diagnosed with diabetes, one of our nurses will visit their school to provide education and training for the staff who will be involved in their care. In addition to this, we also run half-day workshops throughout the year to update staff who are already supporting children and young people to manage their diabetes in school. Please contact the diabetes team on 0113 20 64994 to register your interest in attending one of these workshops.

Transition to High School

Every year we hold a fun event during the summer holidays for children in year 6 who are soon going to be moving up to high school. The aim of this event is to provide children with extra support to help build their confidence in managing diabetes more independently at a new school. This year we will be holding two sessions to accommodate the large number of children we have in year 6, dates TBC.

Cook and Eat

During the summer holidays we hold a Cook and Eat session where we invite our older patients who are looking to improve their cooking skills, in preparation for living a bit more independently. Our dietitians and youth worker spend a morning in Leeds Beckett University kitchens, teaching how to cook a couple of simple, staple meals, which we all carb count and eat together. We will be holding this session on 2nd July 2019.
