Fantastic fundraising for Neonatal unit

15 May 2017

Thank you to Darren and Katy Cooney who with friends and family have raised nearly £25,000 for the neonatal unit over the last 2 years.

The amazing fundraising effort involved a Butterfly ball at the Leeds Irish Centre and an auction of a holiday in Las Vegas as well as a half and full marathon.

The money, which was raised in memory of their daughters Freya and Martha Cooney, who were born 16 weeks early,  has been used to purchase a brand new multi-parameter intensive care monitor for a new ICU room on the neonatal unit and a new portable oxygen and heart rate monitor that can be used remotely. The neonatal unit will also be purchasing 6 new phototherapy lights to help babies with jaundice.

The picture shows Mr and Mrs Cooney and their 11 week old daughter Harriet with Sister Naomi Wallace and Dr Lawrence Miall from the neonatal unit (Leeds Centre for Newborn Care).

Dr Miall said “ We are extremely grateful for this very generous donation towards state of the art equipment on the neonatal unit, which will help us to deliver the best care to premature babies. We would like to thank all those who took part in this fantastic fundraising effort.”
