Neurology Team
Our specialist physiotherapists work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide rehabilitation for children following neurological insult or surgery. Assessment and treatment focus on movement, strength, balance and coordination. Our aim is to help children and adolescents maximise their potential and participate in everyday life. We use games, general play and activities that are age appropriate and functional. We use an individualised goal setting approach to rehabilitation. Family members are actively encouraged to be involved.
Children generally see a physiotherapist following any acute neurological event in particular after a head injury, spinal cord injury, removal of a brain tumour, before and after selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery or implantation of an intra-thecal baclofen (ITB) pump.
Our physiotherapists see children on the ward and in the outpatient clinic setting. Outpatient clinics include the spasticity clinic (SDR & ITB), botulinum toxin clinic or post head injury MDT clinic.
