Dermatology team hosting pop up centre in Leeds

The dermatology team from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are hosting a research drop-in clinic from Monday 5 December to Saturday 10 December and calling for people who have a rash, or skin condition that may be psoriasis and are not under dermatology care already to visit the clinic at Dortmund Square, The Headrow, Leeds, LS2 8RE. 

People who visit the centre can speak to dermatology specialists and be assessed by a doctor. After the assessment, advice will be given on how to access further support and manage skin conditions at home.

Psoriasis is a common skin condition affecting between 1-3% of the general population. Understanding of psoriasis in recent years has improved markedly and resulted in improved patient care. Psoriasis can have a large and negative impact on quality of life affecting an individual’s ability to work and undertake normal activities of daily life.

Dr Philip Laws, Consultant Dermatologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Psoriasis is a common skin condition, but around 50% of people who are affected by the condition aren’t receiving the treatment they need. At the research drop-in clinic this December, people will be assessed and can speak with staff from the dermatology team and get helpful advice on how to manage skin conditions.”

Through visiting the clinic, people can help support further research activities to advance understanding of the impact that psoriasis and other skin conditions have on people. This can enable targeted approaches; ensuring patients who need treatment can access it. This project is conducted collaboratively by dermatology and rheumatology researchers and is part of a large programme of work investigating the early phases of psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis, a related chronic inflammatory joint condition.
