Mr Kallingal Riyad offers services in general and colorectal surgery.
He has been a substantive consultant in the NHS from 2007 (East Lancashire) and at the Leeds Teaching Hospital (John Goligher Colorectal Unit) since 2015.
His main areas of expertise are in laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques in the treatment of colorectal problems. His practice of colorectal surgery encompasses primary colon and rectal cancers, mostly by laparoscopic approach. He is a core member of the colorectal Multidisciplinary team.
He has a wide experience in inflammatory bowel disease and is a core member of the Leeds IBD Multidisciplinary team. In particular, he is experienced in staged management of Crohn’s disease as well as Inflammatory bowel disease patients with intestinal failure and peri-anal problems.
He provides support for the endometriosis service where there is involvement of the colon or rectum by endometriosis.
He is experienced in re-operative abdominal surgery for large abdominal hernias, performing abdominal wall reconstruction and skills at performing surgery for enterocutaneous fistula.
He is a trainer for colonoscopy and Upper GI endoscopy and performs about 200 gastroscopies and colonoscopies every year with good Key performance indicators (KPI).
Mr. Riyad is a Medical Examiner, who scrutinises the records of the diseased to identify the cause of death and determine if the death was natural or unnatural or if a referral to the coroner is required.
Mr. Riyad supports the courts with expert witness testimonies for negligence and personal injury and is an associate member of the civil mediation council, working towards complete accreditation as a Mediator.
Mr Riyad graduated from India (KMC Manipal) and completed his basic surgical training in India (Calicut Medical College, Kozhikode).
He underwent higher surgical in the UK under the Yorkshire region and spent two years in molecular biology research at the Christie Hospital/Patterson institute for cancer research on therapy of colon cancer using gene modified immunotherapy.
