Led by Leeds Health and Care Academy, a collaboration of city-wide organisations have launched an online platform to inspire people about the wealth of roles the sector offers. The development of Career Compass Leeds is the first of its kind for the sector, within the West Yorkshire region.
Career Compass Leeds is an innovative web-based platform that acts as a navigational tool to explore the wide range of roles available in Health and Care in Leeds. Co-designed with over 500 people this digital platform will help inform, inspire, and open doors to health and social care careers for our local communities, both now and in the future.
Co-chairs of the steering group, Kate O’Connell Director of Leeds Health and Care Academy and Leeds Strategic Workforce and Tim Brazier Managing Director and Designer, Thrive by Design, (part of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) said:
Kate O’Connell said: “Working closely with employers, education providers and members of the public across the city has been the key to co-designing and developing Career Compass Leeds, the first of its kind in the region. We are proud to launch a platform that will inspire and connect people with real opportunities in the Leeds health and care sector both now and for the future.”
Tim Brazier: “Through consultation with a range of people across Leeds, we have a much better understanding of the ways people want to access careers information. By listening to feedback and co-designing with future users, we have developed a digital platform which is one of a kind and introduces people to the wide variety of roles across the Leeds Health and Care sector.”
Career Compass Leeds details information about more than 100 different roles that exist within the city’s health and care workforce of around 60,000 people. As well as obvious roles such as nurses, doctors, and care assistants the platform introduces the less well known or ‘hidden’ roles such as pathologist, lawyer, chef, debt advisor and volunteer coordinator.
The user completes a quiz of 30 questions designed by an occupational psychologist to identify their preferences and interests. The answers are used to suggest a list of roles that they are well matched to, and users are invited to find out more about what the role entails, the routes into the role and the qualifications that may be required.
The platform has been developed through a city-wide collaboration of health and care partners including; Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds City Council, Thrive by Design, Leeds Trinity University, Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust, Leeds Community Heathcare NHS Trust, Forum Central and Leeds City College.
