Dame Linda Pollard, Chair, and Craige Richardson, Director of Estates and Facilities introduced the mayor to Dr Agam Jung, Consultant Neurologist, Claire Lang, Specialist Nurse and the wider MND team, who explained how the new centre will have a huge impact on the whole MND community. The current location is not able to accommodate and adapt to the complex needs of patients and the multi-disciplinary team that supports them.
Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, Lord Mayor of Leeds, said, “The dedication and compassion of the MND team was evident in every interaction I observed. The staff demonstrated a deep commitment to providing high-quality care and support to patients and their families.
“The vision for the new centre and the tangible progress being made toward its realisation reflect a profound commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by MND.”
As a result of her discussions with staff, Councillor Katung could see how the new centre will significantly enhance the capabilities of the MND team and the services and support offered by the Trust and the wider MND community. The new space will include open areas in which patients and their families and friends can meet and relax, in addition to a new outdoor space where wheelchairs and other walking aids can be trialled.
The Lord Mayor visited ahead of a Civic Memorial Event for Rob Burrow held in Leeds Civic Hall on Friday. Approximately 200 people joined Rob’s family, including clinical staff, supporters, Leeds Hospital Charity fundraisers and the Leeds Rhinos community, to pay their respects to Rob who campaigned to raise awareness and funds for MND.
