Last year, in Leeds, 11 people donated part of their liver as part of a live liver transplant.
One of those was Karen, who donated 40% of her liver to her little boy Presley. Here’s their story:
“This is living donor week and also my son’s 1year liverversary.
I just want to thank St James hospital liver coordination team in leeds. Without you this would have not been possible.
The journey for both of us has been great a few bumps in the road and some tweaks here and there but nothing our teams couldn’t fix.
We are both doing great and my sons energy levels are crazy and i’m fully back to myself. If I had the choice to do it all again I would do it in a heartbeat.
It’s such an amazing feeling to know apart of me is keeping my son alive. Someone once said to me “you gave life to your son twice” that was a pinch me moment.
My son loves telling our story and showing off his scar “shark bite” he even tries to show strangers who will listen to his story my L for love scar.
I have given the gift of life wow!! and its the best decision I’ve ever made x”
Across the UK more than 1,000 people donate their kidney or part of their liver to someone who needs a transplant while they are still alive. What an incredible gift!
