The segment showcased Innovation Pop Up members Little Journey, whose app was featured being used with young patients on the BBC News Look North programme and covered in a dedicated ten-minute segment on Politics North.
The app is designed to reduce healthcare-induced anxiety by supporting children and families before, during, and after hospital visits.
The coverage highlights Leeds’ leading role in healthcare innovation, with a particular focus on initiatives that are transforming patient care across the region. These efforts form part of the ongoing development of the Innovation Hub and Innovation Village, located at the historic Old Medical School site, which has recently received support from local leaders.
Little Journey was co-created by Sophie Copley with children, families, and healthcare professionals to provide end-to-end support throughout the hospital journey.
The app guides children and families through each stage of their healthcare experience, at home and in the hospital. Its digital e-support platform informs and reassures families about what to expect during healthcare procedures, such as elective surgeries, helping them feel more at ease and prepared.

The platform has now been fully adopted at Leeds Children’s Hospital after a successful trial, allowing more families to benefit from its positive impact on patient care and hospital experiences.
The adoption of Little Journey marks a significant step towards making healthcare more accessible and less stressful for young patients and their families, helping them navigate what can otherwise be a daunting experience.
