The purpose of the conference was to showcase the innovative interventions, research activity and services provided by occupational therapists in Leeds. The conference coincided with national Occupational Therapy Week which celebrated the theme of the ‘transformative and life changing power of Occupational Therapy in health and social care’.
This proved a great opportunity to demonstrate how occupational therapy services make a difference for our patients. The prize for best abstract and presentation was awarded to Emma Kersey (Major Trauma OT).
Her presentation detailed the role of OT with people experiencing Post ICU necrosis and focused on functional goals supporting the needs of patients. Emma also described how she developed and lead a national network for AHP professions working with this patient group. The next steps in building on this successful day are underway. A conference committee bringing together representatives from OT services across the city will plan and organise the 2025 Leeds OT conference.
