Chief Executive Brendan Brown and Trust Chair Antony Kildare have recommitted Leeds Teaching Hospitals’ pledge to supporting the Armed Forces Community by re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of the Trust.
The Covenant was first signed by the Trust in 2017 to ensure that UK Armed Forces serving personnel (Regular or Reserve), their families and UK Veterans, face no disadvantage compared with other citizens in the provision of healthcare. In 2024 the Trust also achieved a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award which is awarded to organisations who demonstrate exceptional, proactive support for the Armed Forces Community.
The Covenant outlines the commitment to supporting both patients and colleagues to ensure they are not disadvantaged by their service. This includes recognising the additional support needed by Armed Forces personnel, their partners and families, supporting Regular and Reservist colleagues in accommodating their training and deployment, and empowering Trust colleagues to develop knowledge and understanding of Armed Forces Community patient needs.
Brendan Brown said: “It is a privilege to once again solidify our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and support this initiative which touches many of our family and friends lives, as well as those of the communities we care for.”
