The Government’s 10 Year Health Plan for England has been launched, setting out a bold, ambitious and necessary new course for the NHS.
The plan fundamentally reinvents the NHS’ approach to healthcare so that we can guarantee it will be there for all who need it for generations to come.
It has been shaped by the experiences and expectations of members of the public, patients, partners and the health and care workforce across the country, reflecting the changes that people wanted to see.
Through the ‘three shifts’ – from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from treatment to prevention – the NHS will personalise care, give more power to patients, and ensure that the best of the NHS is available to all.
You can read the plan on the Government’s website.
Prof Phil Wood, Chief Executive. said: “At Leeds Teaching Hospitals, we welcome the Government’s 10 year Health Plan. It is recognition that there are significant challenges that need to be addressed, but also reflective that there is so much good work already being done across the NHS.
“There is significant overlap between the ‘three big shift’ areas and initiatives we are already doing here in Leeds. We are proud to have already introduced successful initiatives like HomeFirst and our Recovery Care Plan on the Electronic Health Record to help patients receive care at home and return home sooner after hospital admissions. We have also introduced diagnostic services into the community through the Lung Health Check and Liver Buddies. This new focus from the 10 year plan will allow us to bring even more improvements to our services.
“We recognise that there’s a real need to maintain and restore public confidence in the NHS by working collaboratively. We will continue to work with our partners to deliver care that’s better for patients, while reducing pressure on our hospitals and our colleagues.“
