Yorkshire County Cricket Club stars Ben Coad, James Wharton and George Hill visited Leeds Children’s Hospital in December to hand out some early Christmas presents and chat to patients and families spending time in hospital this Christmas.
Dan Matson (YCCC Commercial Director) said:
‘Christmas can be a really difficult time for children and families spending it in hospital, so being able to bring some joy and distraction means a lot to everyone at the club. Even small moments — a chat, a smile, a gift — can really lift spirits. It’s a privilege for our players and staff to spend time with the children and their families, and to show that their community is thinking of them this Christmas’

As well as spending time with patients on the wards, Tuesday’s visit included a special meeting with patient Caiden who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Caiden is a keen bowler for Ben Coad’s home club – Studley Royal Cricket Club. Caiden’s club have thrown themselves behind Caiden and his family since his diagnosis. YCCC brought Caiden a signed shirt from YCCC and had a good chat about all things cricket!

Laura Whelan (Head of Nursing at Leeds Children’s Hospital) said:
‘Thank you so much to the Yorkshire players and support staff who have given up their time to visit our patients today. No family wants to find themselves in hospital at Christmas but visits and generous donations from our local sports heroes provide a big boost for patients, families and staff. It’s been a pleasure to see all the smiles today’
Huge thanks to everyone at Yorkshire Country Cricket Club for a memorable visit and lots of lovely donated gifts.
