The nurse specialist team are here to support all patients (and their relatives/ carers) who have a diagnosis of a neuroendocrine tumour. We will guide you through diagnosis, discuss with you treatment options and offer advice and support when treatment finishes.
We are part of the neuroendocrine multi-disciplinary team (MDT) who meet regularly to discuss each patient’s diagnosis and plan of care. The MDT includes medical oncology doctors (specialising in administering systemic anti-cancer treatments such as chemotherapy), clinical oncology doctors (specialising in giving radiotherapy), surgeons, radiologists (who review scans and x-rays), an endocrinologist (who specialises in hormone related tumours and conditions) and a histopathologist (who examines cells under the microscope).
The nurse specialists are your key point of contact whilst you are under the care of the neuroendocrine MDT.
We also work very closely with the other health professionals that may be involved in your care, including other hospitals and community teams. We can refer/ signpost you to services that can offer specialist advice on finance, diet, complimentary therapies and psychological support. We can also provide information about the neuroendocrine health charities, a very useful source of support with information on patient support groups that may be running.
