Information for patients
- All dressings should remain untouched until your Dressing Clinic or Practice Nurse appointment, unless specific instructions are given by your surgeon or the nursing staff
- Contact the Dressing Clinic or the Plastic Surgery Ward (telephone numbers can be found below) if you have any of the following:–
Important:
Swelling
Redness or swelling around the operation site
Important:
Pain
Excessive pain that is not controlled by painkillers
Important:
Temperature
A raised temperature or a fever/feeling unwell
Important:
Discharge
A large amount of discharge or bleeding through the dressing
Important:
Other
Any other symptoms which you are concerned about
- If you have a drain in your wound, you must check the drain site regularly for any of the above symptoms. Empty the drain as instructed prior to discharge and record drainage on the chart provided
