I’m having an EEG today

This leaflet tells you what happens when you have an EEG. An EEG is a test that helps the doctors to see how my brain is working.
What will happen when I have an EEG?
My relatives can come into the room with me. I have to sit on a special bed. The physiologist will rub my head and stick lots of special stickers on with sticky paste and some tape. They don’t hurt but feel a bit cold.

Then they will plug them into a special computer to take my pictures.
My pictures look like squiggly lines

The computer has a video camera to film me while I have my EEG.
I have to sit still for 20 minutes. I may be able to read a book or watch a DVD for some of the time.

But I will also have to close my eyes for a bit,

do some big breaths or blow a windmill for a few minutes,

and watch some flashing lights too.

If I have been good I can pick a sticker!
