Welcome to the Gynaecology Acute Treatment Unit. This leaflet is designed to provide you with important information about your visit, the processes involved, and how we strive to ensure you receive the best care possible.
We understand that waiting can be challenging, and we appreciate your patience.
What to expect during your visit
- Registration
Upon arrival, please check in at the reception. Our team will verify your details and provide you with any necessary forms to fill out. - Triage
You will have an initial assessment also known as triage This involves taking your vital signs, understanding your symptoms, recording your medical history and initial tests. - Review with a gynaecology clinician
After your triage you will see a doctor or a Gynaecology nurse. You may require further tests as part of your management. - Waiting for scans and tests
Depending on your condition, you may need to wait for diagnostic tests such as blood tests or scans.
Why there may be delays
- Emergency cases
Our unit handles both scheduled and emergency cases. Occasionally, emergencies may take priority, leading to longer wait times on the gynaecology acute treatment unit. - Diagnostic test wait times
Diagnostic tests like blood work and scans can take time, especially if there is a high volume of patients needing these services. Please be aware that you may not have your tests or results on the same day you are seen
How we are working to reduce wait times
- Efficient triage
Our triage system prioritises patients based on the clinical urgency to make sure that the sickest patients get seen first. - Clear communication
We strive to keep you informed about any expected delays and the reasons for them.
Please feel free to ask our staff for updates on your status.
