About the Renal Intervention Centre

The Renal Intervention Centre (RIC) provides specialist care and monitoring for patients with kidney conditions. This information explains the services offered and what to expect during your visit.

Location

RIC is situated on the first floor Lincoln Wing, St James’s University Hospital Leeds.

Why you may be asked to attend

You may be referred to the RIC for one or more of the following:

• Urinalysis
• Blood pressure control
• Review after discharge from kidney ward
• Blood transfusions
• Fluid and electrolyte management
• Monitoring any adjustments made to medicines
• Infusions such as Cyclophosphamide, Methylprednisolone, Rituximab, Iron Infusions
• Pre and Post Infusions
• Doctor reviews
• Dialysis lines or fistula issues
• Renal and Transplant biopsies
• Venesection
• Vasculitis Clinic

Preparing for your appointment

To help us provide safe and efficient care, please:

• Bring all your current medication, ideally in original packaging.
• Attend at your scheduled appointment time.
• Bring a list of any questions you would like to ask the team.
• Bring your own refreshments if needed.

Tea and biscuits are available.

Parking

The nearest parking is the multi –storey car park behind Bexley Wing. This is a paid car park.

Disabled parking spaces are available throughout the Trust.

When you arrive

Please report to the RIC reception desk. You may be asked to:

• Have your vital signs checked
• Blood tests
• Provide a urine sample

How long your visit will take?

The length of your visit depends on the reason for attending. As a guide:

• Medication review and blood results: 2–6 hours
• Treatment or infusions: 2–10 hours
• Biopsies: 8–10 hours
• Blood transfusion: 6–8 hours
• You may wish to bring a book, magazine, or electronic device.
