British Sign Language Video Interpreting
British Sign Language video interpreting is available at Leeds Teaching Hospital. If you attend the hospital in an emergency (such as visiting Accident & Emergency or the Maternity Services) you can ask the clinical team looking after you to access this service via SignLive, on Trust iPads, laptops or mobile phones.
Making Contact using BSL
BSL users can contact the Trust via BSL video Interpreter. If you use SignLive, search the Community Directory for Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Full instructions are available on The Leeds Teaching Hospitals contact us page.
Accessing patient information leaflets
If you are blind or partially sighted, you may find using ReachDeckTM helpful to access this website, which includes all the Trust’s patient resources, including patient information leaflets. Access ReachDeckTM by clicking on the orange button on the top right hand corner of the screen. This will enable you to enlarge text, hide distracting images and have the content read the out loud.
Using Patient Hub if you are deaf or hard of hearing
Patient Hub is a digital appointment system for outpatient appointments. If you are deaf or hard of hearing this should help you to interact with the hospital to make arrangements about your appointment, without having to use a phone.
We recognise that the Patient Hub will not be a solution for all patients.
Raising a Concern or a Query
If you need to contact the hospital there is a text phone available, which will connect you to the PALS team. This is also useful for callers that have difficulty with speech. The PALS team will assist callers with connection to the correct team.
The PALS text phone number is: 07468 753 025.
Identifying you on your hospital records
Our hospital teams can identify you as being deaf or hard of hearing by adding a “flag” to your hospital record. You can ask when you attend if this is on your records.
