Angela is Professor in Maternal Health & Professional Education and Head of the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds. Research and education interests include health professional education with a focus on obstetric emergencies and enhanced maternal care.
Angela is passionate about quality and safety in care delivery, achieved through excellence in education and research, and represents the Council of Deans of Health on the National Midwifery Council Midwifery Strategic Advisory Group. A visiting Professor at UNISA Yogyakarta, Indonesia (since 2019) she has consulted on curriculum development and led the development of the BSc (Hons) Midwifery blended degree programme with successful funding from NHS England.
Angela has been Deputy Principal Investigator for the My First 1000 days project – a landmark early years research project aimed at improving health and social outcomes for families and children in the crucial first two years of life in the Leeds area. This focus continues as a member of CHORAL (Child Health Outcomes Research at Leeds) fundraising project team, working towards improving lives and life chances for children growing up in the UK.
