What we do
We provide a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services to children and young people with diseases of the kidney and urinary tract, including:
- Congenital abnormalities (problems children are born with) of kidney and bladder
- Acute kidney injury
- Chronic kidney disease
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Glomerulonephritis
- Haematuria (blood in the urine)
- Proteinuria (large amounts of protein in the urine)
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Inherited disorders affecting serum electrolytes (blood salt and mineral levels) and regulation of acid-base (blood acid levels)
- Cystic kidney disease
- Kidney stones
- Metabolic disorders
We work closely with our colleagues in paediatric urology, radiology, histopathology, biochemistry and transplant surgery to deliver care.
We offer a full range of renal replacement therapy including haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation.
Our services has a well-established transition programme supporting young people with kidney disease as they move into adult services.
We work alongside and support numerous other children’s specialities at Leeds Children’s Hospital including cardiology, hepatology, oncology, rheumatology and intensive care.
We also have an established clinical network and see many of our patients alongside local consultants in outreach clinics in St Luke’s Hospital (Bradford), Scarborough Hospital, York Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital (Grimsby), Scunthorpe General hospital, Airedale General Hospital (Keighley), Pinderfields Hospital (Wakefield), Dewsbury and District Hospital, Calderdale Royal Hospital (Halifax) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
We also deliver specialist clinics at Leeds Children’s Hospital including haemodialysis, tuberous sclerosis, renal stones, nephrourology, young persons, Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) and antenatal counselling.

Meet the team
We are large multidisciplinary team of professionals caring for children and young people with kidney disease. We are based at the Leeds Children’s Hospital LGI site. The different professionals that make up the team work closely together to offer holistic care to our patients.
