Using virtual technology our team of clinicians provide support for early discharge, allowing periods of observation to be completed in the comfort of the patient’s home environment.
What do we do?
Healthier at home is a nurse-led service available at Leeds Children’s Hospital for children that require an extended period of observations that can be delivered safely at home using video technology. When a patient is cared for within Healthier at Home the nursing team work closely with the medical teams to support earlier discharge and continue assessment of children in their own home,
There are many advantages to caring for children at home. They are generally much more comfortable and likely to recover more quickly.
Information for families
Our team of skilled nurses will approach families who may benefit from care under Healthier at Home. We will introduce ourselves and the service and give you some time to consider if you would like to go home early and be observed from home. We will discuss concerns about your child’s illness, things to look out for at home and agree a pre-set time for a video call. All it requires is a smart phone, a good internet connection and for you to stay at home during the observation period.
Before you leave the ward, we will do a quick check to show you how the technology works and sign an agreement form with you detailing all responsibilities for parents/carers and clinicians.

Meet the Team
We are a team of three Children’s Nurses with varied backgrounds from outpatients, medical nursing and intensive care. We are trained to identify unwell children and those that need to be in hospital from those that would be better off recovering at home. We work Monday to Friday from 8am to 8.30pm.
