Hello my name is…

A warm welcome is an important part of your care in our hospitals and you should see our staff wearing Hello My Name Is…badges and introducing themselves, whatever their role.

Helpful Information

‘Hello, my name is…’ is a campaign we’ve proudly supported for more than 10 years. It was created by Dr Kate Granger, a consultant who later became a patient herself. Her experience highlighted just how important simple introductions are in healthcare – helping patients feel more at ease, more human, and more connected to the people caring for them.

Learning to introduce ourselves in British Sign Language (BSL) and Makaton is a natural extension of that message.

Accessibility and visibility matter. When patients who use these forms of communication see our staff signing, it shows them that they are understood, welcome, and included. It sends a clear signal that communication needs are recognised and respected across our Trust.

It is simple to learn and easy to incorporate into everyday practice – yet it can make a meaningful difference to someone’s experience of care.

The Learning Disability and Autism Team are here to show you how to sign “Hello, my name is…”, so we can continue building a more inclusive and accessible environment for everyone.
