Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD)

The Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD) service is a diagnostic and management service for adults with white matter disorders. Leeds Teaching Hospitals one of seven lead centres across England, working in collaboration to streamline diagnostic and management services for patients with IWMDs.

Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD), also known as leukodystrophies, are part of a group of genetic disorders that are a result of single gene mutations. IWMDs affect the nervous system. 

In collaboration with other lead IWMD centres, LTHT will work towards the development of specialised diagnostic and disease-specific protocols with the aim of setting up a system for the management of symptoms, diagnostics, and clinical trials.
