About Leeds Children’s Transplant Team
Leeds Children’s Transplant Team is made up of children and young people, all recipients of life-saving kidney, liver and bone marrow transplants at Leeds Children’s Hospital. The team compete in sports at the British Transplant Games every year, supported by staff and volunteers from Leeds Children’s Hospital and Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Children and young people take part in sporting events took including track and field, swimming, badminton, football, tennis, cycling and lots more.
Leeds Children’s Transplant Team is a thriving and supportive community of families, all touched by transplant and organ donation.
About the British Transplant Games
The Transplant Games is a vibrant celebration of the gift of life, dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of organ donation. It also serves to honour and appreciate organ donors and their families.
Since its inception in Portsmouth in 1978, the Games have evolved into a four-day event featuring over 20 different activities for more than 1,000 transplant recipients. Each year, the transplant community gathers at a different location, where teams from various hospitals compete in a diverse array of sporting events.
The Transplant Games are more than just a competition; they provide an invaluable opportunity for transplant recipients to connect, share their stories, and inspire others to engage in conversations about organ donation.
The 2026 British Transplant Games will be held just down the road in Sheffield, 6-10 August.
Fundraising for Leeds Children’s Transplant Team
It costs a family of four around £800 to attend the British Transplant Games. Leeds Children’s Transplant Team strive to make the games accessible to everyone and use fundraising as a means of supporting families to attend.
